Management Advice:
K+ is a major Intracellular Cation important for functioning of Nerve, Muscle and Heart properly. Normal plasma level is 3.5-5.0 mmol/L Hypokalemia
➟Abnormally Low Level < 3.5 of Plasma K+ is Hypokalemia.
Etiology are as mentioned below
➟ Vomiting (loss of K⁺ and H⁺)
➟ Paradoxical Hypokalemia
➟ Metabolic Alkalosis
➟ Diarrhea
➟ Injudicious use of Diuretics
➟ Hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s)
➟ Cushing's syndrome
➟ Renal tubular acidosis
➟ Magnesium deficiency
Clinical Features
➟ Muscle Weakness
➟ Fatigue, Myalgia
➟ Hypoventilation, Tetany
➟ Encephalopathy in Liver Disease patients
➟ Dysrhythmia
➟ Myocardial Dysfunction
