A Unified Digital Foundation : India’s Proposed Integrated National ID System ( Birth to Death ) & for all

We need a horizontal, integrated National ID System (NID) designed to track all citizens details and support lifecycle from birth to death so need for a decade gap census is needed to know own country’s demographics.

I propose that connecting essential service verticals like health, education, skills training , employment be it government or non  government , and e-governance – under a single, verifiable digital identity.

The proposed system will aim to

~ enhance transparency

~ streamline service delivery

~ fundamentally redefine the citizen-state relationship where every department can fetch other Details in a single click and no need for any physical documents to bring every time for a new document creation or verification

My vision is simple we will deploy A UNIFIED DIGITAL BACKBONE that accompanies every Indian citizen from the first breath to the demise . All will be done under one directory onecitizen.gov.in with NID

1. Birth of A newborn and NID

The journey will begin after birth. Upon registration, the newborn will be assigned a unique National ID (NID).

This immediate linking will ensure a distinct digital existence from day one. Crucially, at the point of initialization, two data sets will be anchored in his / her NID DoB and Parental Details as well as will be registered under onehealth.gov.in

2. Registration under onehealth.gov.in

All newborns will have NID with which he or she will be added to their profile under onehealth.gov.in . Initially 3 primary details will be added

Name of Parents

For Parental identification

The Date of Birth (DOB)

The foundational data point for future age-based eligibility.

Blood Group

Initiating the core health profile of the citizen from day 1

From this moment on, all subsequent health records from his/her neonatal treatments , pediatric immunizations, pediatrician visits, diagnostics, and treatments will be progressively and automatically updated within the  secure digital vault at onehealth.gov.in.

It will be accessible to providers across the country through the unified NID. All treatment , hospitalizations must need to be updated in the onehealth.gov.in since the citizen dies

3. The Developmental Era : Education , Skill Training , Citizen’s Availing government services , Jobs Marriage and DBT Services

The most important and crucial part of the CITIZEN will be linked horizontally one another but vertically with NID .

Their integrated NID will be continuously UPDATED across various critical domains during this phase .

This vertical integration with NID while all departments acting independently will allow for a seamless data flow, breaking down bureaucratic hurdles and citizens struggle

A] oneeducation.gov.in

As the child moves from primary school to higher education, every diploma, degree, and certification is digitally appended to their NID.

This creates a secure, verifiable repository of academic achievement, eliminating the risk of lost or forged documents. One step passed will be easily accessed digitally for next step to proceed . Physical documentation need is Zero.

B] oneskill.gov.in

Parallel to formal education, any skill training, professional certifications, or vocational programs undertaken by the citizen are instantly recorded and must be updated by institutions.

C] onejob.gov.in

All government and Private recruiters must update the status of Recruitment to government which will be reflected in citizens own NID and Tracked by government easily

This will eliminate the need for extensive manual background checks and will streamline hiring process for employers while empowering job seekers. No CV needed just a click and all your serve information in a Single dashboard

D] eservice.gov.in

The integrated NID serves as the unique login credential for all government services. From filing taxes , giving votes , doing eKYC, to apply for a new or renewing licenses, this single-window approach will eliminate the fragmentation between departments that currently complicates interaction with the state and citizens

E] passport.gov.in

Using the established NID data will significantly reduce Passport application processing times while it will secure national security protocols as verification for passports and visas becomes efficient and immediate from one single click.

F] onedbt.gov.in

Via NID based system ,  a comprehensive, unified view of the citizen’s demographic and socioeconomic profile will be established

So this portal will provide a single window for the transfer of government schemes and benefits directly to accounts. Effects will be immediate

~ It will ensure targeted delivery

~ It will minimize leakage of benefits in the social welfare schemes

Benefits of the NID System

A unified approach will always reduce paperwork, waiting times, and frustration of a citizen by providing single-point access to multiple essential services.

Automatic verification and real-time updates across systems minimize the scope for documentation forgery, data manipulation, and leakage in welfare distribution.

Anonymized, aggregated data can provide valuable insights for demographic analysis, public health planning, educational strategy, and economic forecasting as well as point out in driving the areas to focus
